standards for how quickly the companies that own and operate the U.S’s oil pipelines must detect and plug leaks. While the agency’s proposed rule expands the number of pipelines that must have a leak-detection system in place, it did not set a standard for how well that technology must work, Politico reports; instead it lets pipeline operators decide whether they are adequately prepared.
