Ontario: A Solar Leader?
In 2008, the province of Ontario adopted a feed-in tariff program (FIT). It offers any individual or business the opportunity to connect a solar array to the grid and get paid a long-term contract with sufficient revenue to make a return on investment. It was considered noteworthy for also requiring the solar array to be purchased in Ontario. In the ILSR’s 2013 review of the tariff program, Ontario was applauded for the 5000MW of renewable application, but with delays in connecting programs, only 10% were operational. This led to the province falling short of its target and economic development goals.
