U.S. Coast Guard Sees Shell’s Arctic Exploration as a Burden

The U.S. Coast Guard has been forced to divert resource vessels to the Arctic this summer to ensure that Royal Dutch Shell’s quest into Arctic oil drilling meets environmental and safety commitments, said its top officer. The added Coast Guard presence includes the Waesche, a 127-metre long national security ship that normally operates in the Caribbean and Central America, fighting drug traffickers.
