Five Nations Pledge to Arctic Fishing Ban

Five nations bordering the Arctic Ocean, including Canada and the United States, came to an interim agreement earlier this month to prohibit commercial fishing in international waters, until more research is available on the effects of warming seas and melting ice on fish populations. The moratorium was a reaction to fish stocks migrating to Arctic waters. The nations pledged to begin a broader process to regulate potential commercial fishing in the Arctic Ocean among all countries whose fishing fleets might fish there.
