Apple Inks $848M, 130-MW Solar Power Purchase
Apple has signed a 25-year, $848-million power purchase agreement with Pacific Gas & Electric to buy 130 megawatts of electricity from First Solar’s California Flats Solar Project in Monterey County.
“Apple’s commitment was instrumental in making this project possible and will significantly increase the supply of solar power in California,” said First Solar Chief Commercial Officer Joe Kishkill. The 2,900-acre plant, built on a property owned by Hearst Corporation, is expected to be complete by the end of 2016.

Climate Progress reported that the deal will power Apple’s two corporate campuses in Cupertino, a data centre, and the company’s 52 stores in California. Earlier this month, Apple announced a $2-billion investment in a 70-megawatt solar farm to power its global data command centre in Arizona.
