Renewables, Efficiency Could Even Out Winter Price Spikes

Massachusetts can even out wintertime spikes in energy prices by reducing its reliance on natural gas in favour of energy efficiency, renewable energy, and Canadian hydroelectric imports, according to a new analysis for the Acadia Center.

“Because electric ratepayers across New England are being asked to subsidize the construction of a pipeline that could take decades to pay off, alternatives need to be examined in all New England states,” said Center President Dan Sosland. The goal is β€œto ensure that we have an accurate, up-to-date picture of how to power the region, while reducing risks to consumers and bringing down greenhouse gas emissions.”
