Energy East Pipeline Brings Conservation Risks, Few Benefits to Eastern Canada [Photo Essay]

Photographer Garth Lenz presents an exquisite photo essay that shines a light on the high risks and limited benefits of TransCanada Corporation’s Energy East pipeline. “All along the pipeline’s proposed route, I have struggled to understand how this project could benefit local communities, or even the country as a whole,” he wrote, after spending two weeks touring the pipeline route between Quebec City and St. John on behalf of Environmental Defence and the International League of Conservation Photographers. “It is pretty clear why industry wants the pipelines, but how does the general population benefit and what are we giving up? As an export pipeline, Energy East wouldn’t create many permanent jobs,” but “it would threaten our shared environment and the water of millions of Canadians.” (h/t Diane Beckett for pointing us to this story)
