Helsinki’s Mobility on Demand System to Make Car Ownership Obsolete

Helsinki is introducing a point-to-point mobility on demand system designed to make urban car ownership pointless in the next 10 years. “Helsinki aims to transcend conventional public transport by allowing people to purchase mobility in real time, straight from their smartphones,” reports Greenfield, senior urban fellow at the London School of Economics. “The hope is to furnish riders with an array of options so cheap, flexible, and well-coordinated that it becomes competitive with private car ownership not merely on cost, but on convenience and ease of use.” (h/t to Derek Warwick/Newsana [1] for spotting this story)
