Canadian Government Admits ‘More Work’ Needed on Climate Adaptation

A Canadian government department admits “more work is needed” to prepare the country for the health, economic, and environmental impacts of climate change. The 292-page assessment, released quietly on the Natural Resources Canada website, acknowledges that municipalities are farthest along in efforts to adapt to climate change. The report “is likely to provide more ammunition for critics who complain the Harper government is lax on addressing global warming,” Whittington reports. “Negative impacts on the economy, human health, and biodiversity are expected to grow, particularly as a result of increasing extreme weather events such as storms, droughts, forest fires, heat waves, and floods, the report says.” (h/t Lorne Warwick/Newsana [1])
