Passive Solar Schools Cut Carbon, Deliver Healthier Learning Environments

More than 30 schools in the UK, Germany, and Austria have been built to the Passive House standard, at no extra cost compared to a traditional school building. The buildings save 70% on utility costs, 90% on heating and cooling costs, and offer better construction, greater durability, more affordable maintenance, and a lower carbon footprint. β€œMost importantly: The indoor air quality and climate is much better than in traditional schools,” Passive Green reports. β€œThe fresher air makes for healthier, more attentive students.” The post includes several gorgeous shots of passive solar schools, featuring natural daylighting and open architecture that any of us would have craved during our school years.
