Oilfields Regional Arena in Alberta Generates 16 kW of Solar

The Oilfields Regional Arena in Black Diamond, Alberta is generating 16 kilowatts of electricity from a rooftop solar array, thanks to the efforts of a local facility manager described as the MacGyver of community green energy. I don’t endorse this post’s side shot at Ontario’s successful feed-in tariff program, but Les Quinton’s community solar work in Black Diamond is impressive: a program that began with a 1.82-kW microsolar array has grown into a green reserve fund, drawn from energy efficiency savings, that produces $7,000 per year for small-scale energy projects.
