Embrace New Energy Technologies Now, Ernst & Young Urges Utilities

The traditional utility sector faces mounting pressure to adapt its business model to distributed generation, and Ernst & Young is urging power companies to offer new products and services to compete with new entrants. “Utilities will need to work with regulators and stakeholder groups to develop products and services for different customers,” Noble writes. “A business model predicated for a century on creating and shipping power will have to accommodate a cacophony of energy sources, and design pricing structures to suit.”
