Bird Kills in Gulf of Mexico Oil Blowout Exceed Original Estimates

New estimates indicate that as many as 800,000 birds may have died as a result of the blowout at the Deepwater Horizon oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico in April 2010, far more than the 3,000 carcasses actually recovered. “The findings are bound to be disputed,” the Times reported. “The science of calculating the number of birds affected in such a catastrophe remains imprecise, and studies by BP and the federal government are not yet publicly available for comparison.” (h/t to Environmental News Bits [1])
