Declare Gasoline a Public Health Risk, B.C. Teen Urges Municipality
WARNING: Use of this fuel product contributes to ocean acidification, which puts much marine life at risk of extinction. – Required by Municipality of Courage by-law 2013-058.
That’s an example of the gasoline warning labels that Emily Kelsall, 16, is asking West Vancouver city council to place on gas pumps across the city. Council is considering the request, the Vancouver Province reports. “We’re all in this together,” Kelsall said. “We have to treat the Earth like our mother instead of our business partner.”
Mayor Michael Smith, a former petroleum wholesaler, said he supports the campaign. “I wouldn’t have any violent objection — it’s a public information campaign,” he told The Province. “Whether people pay any attention is up to them.” (h/t to Peter J. Francis)
