Low-Carbon Transition Will Save $71 Trillion by 2050: IEA
According to a technology review released today by the International Energy Agency, decarbonization of the global energy system will cost $44 trillion by mid-century—but it will save $115 trillion, for a net gain of $71 trillion. (Yes, that’s ‘trillion’ with a ‘trill’.) The study predicts that renewable energy will supply 65% of the world’s electricity by 2050, compared to 20% in 2011. “The findings support those who say that it is possible to decouple economic growth from emissions,” RTCC reports.
